A comparison of the various humidification systems shows that higher
performance, lower operating costs and improved health protection
all give the edge to modern nozzle humidification.
In recent years, more and more companies have converted their
humidification system to modern high pressure nozzle humidification.
DRAABE Industrietechnik is one of the companies world-wide which has
paved the way for this technology. In nozzle humidification, a
high-pressure pump (85 bar) and special titanium nozzles are used to
atomize water into microfine particles at high pressure and with
virtually no noise. Compared to nozzle humidification operated with
compressed air, this uses only a fraction of the electricity costs
for a much higher atomizer humidification performance (max. 32
kg/h). At DRAABE, the water is routed in a closed circuit. Only
highly pure demineralized water is used for the hygienic and
reliable operation of nozzle humidification; this water is
conditioned by a reverse osmosis unit integrated in the system.
In qualitative terms, suppliers of the different systems for high
pressure-operated nozzle humidification differ essentially in nozzle
size, humidity distribution, flexibility and services: nozzle
humidification with very fine nozzles (80-100 m) excludes the risk
of drip formation and condensation, particularly with low ceilings.
Maximum and rapid distribution of humidity in the room is achieved
by nozzle humidification with an additional fan integrated in the
atomizer. In order to prevent unintentional intake and distribution
of dusts, ensure that the intake of air for nozzle humidification is
not from below, if possible. Nozzle humidification which allows
subsequent expansion - e.g. for the prepress stage - or connection
to the building services management system is preferable to an
inflexible (pipe) system. Last but not least, when making a
comparison you should take account of the fact that regular
prophylactic servicing and disinfecting of the water treatment and
high-pressure unit is required for smooth, hygienic operation of
nozzle humidification. The international "Optimized humidification"
certificate recently introduced provides more information about the
hygiene standard of a nozzle humidification system.
